Pyramid Sand and Gravel
The field immediately south of the main road, next to the sewerage works, was quarried for sand and gravel for several years in the 1950s; there are rumours that when the quarrying ended it was used for the dumping of waste rubber and other materials.
The story is very possibly apocryphal, like the story that several earth movers and excavators were abandoned and covered in soil during the building of the M4 to the north of the village.
