Dolittle / Doolittle Cottage
No 3 Chestnut Road (previously 15 High Street, and known today as 'Little Manor') was called 'Doolittle Cottage' in the late 1960s / early 1970s. A film called 'Dr Dolittle' was made in Castle Combe in about 1967, and many of the cast stayed in Sutton Benger; the female star of the movie was an actress called Samantha Eggar, and she rented 3 Chestnut Road. The owners then decided to improve the house and sell it, using the tenuous link to increase the value of the property. They actually managed to spell the name incorrectly - or maybe there was copyright on the word 'Dolittle'?
